Work with your neighbours to build the Sheffield we want to live in
In 2023, the publication of the Sheffield City Goals set out six stories we want to be able to tell about our city in 2035. Now it's time to start making them a reality.
Learn more about the Sheffield City Goals
Sheffield is a creative, enterprising and resilient city, where people are taking action every day to build a better future and to address the challenges we collectively face – challenges like climate breakdown, poverty and inequality, and declining trust in our institutions.
But all too often this action is fragmented and piecemeal, and smaller groups and initiatives struggle to get the support and funding they need to grow or be sustainable.
At the same time, businesses and public sector organisations across our city want to spend money on tackling problems like climate change and health inequality, but this investment often doesn't reach the people who could make the most of it.
Sheffield Transition Financing, part of the City Goals Demonstrator and Investment portfolio, is designed to connect big investors to solutions on the ground, with local people making decisions about what to prioritise in their neighbourhoods.
Now, we’re inviting people across Sheffield to get together with their neighbours to:
Build a shared understanding of the strengths, problems and needs in their area
Test out new ideas for positive change
Help small initiatives and projects to grow
Keep their neighbours informed and involved with what’s happening locally
Access flexible funding to turn ideas into action

We want to hear from people and groups who are interested in building neighbourhood-led decision-making and local governance, and finding new ways of investing in what matters most to our communities.
To begin with, we’ll provide financial support to people in five Sheffield neighbourhoods to experiment and learn how neighbourhood governance can work in practice. We’re selecting these ‘starter neighbourhoods’ on the basis of available data and local knowledge, giving us the best opportunity to learn what works well in different communities across our city.
But if you're not in one of our starter neighbourhoods, don’t worry: if you want to start exploring neighbourhood-led working we’ll provide practical support, including sharing tools, useful information, and updates on what other groups have tried out and what’s worked well for them.
If you want to learn more, start building local decision-making in your neighbourhood, or if you'd like updates on what's happening where you are, please get in touch.
